<suppInfo>At the time of data development in 2009, Linda Lian in Development Engineering maintained an AutoCAD map containing benchmarks. There are several layers that made up the data depicted in this map but only two layers were recommended for conversion into GIS. They were BM-2000 and BMTBM-2000 layers. Points from these two layers were matched with an Excel spreadsheet also provided by Development Engineering. Roughly 23 points within the two layers did not have corresponding data in the Excel spreadsheet therefore they were dropped from the resulting GIS dataset. Only 80 bechmarks were part of the original feature class.
In May 2017 the City Engineer contracted KPG in Tacoma to update existing benchmarks to NAVD88, inspect the condition of a limited number of existing benchmarks, and install and document 12 new benchmarks in the South East area of South Hill Puyallup. KPG provided an updated spreadsheet with new information including a KML file containing the new benchmarks. Going through the Excel spreadsheet it was determined that the description field was detailed enough to locate missing benchmarks left out during the original conversion process in 2009. Twelve new benchmarks were added by importing the KML file provided by KPG. Thirty-nine benchmarks were hand digitized using the descriptions hence adding them to the feature class. A total of 51 benchmarks were added to the existing 80 benchmarks. PLEASE NOTE that because none of the benchmarks were GPS'd for locational accuracy their locations are APPROXIMATE and should be field verified prior to using their information. All benchmarks in the feature class have NAVD88 and NGVD29 datums.</suppInfo>

Twelve new benchmarks were added by importing the KML file provided by KPG. Thirty-nine benchmarks were hand digitized using the descriptions hence adding them to the feature class. A total of 51 benchmarks were added to the existing 80 benchmarks contained within the feature class. During this November update 4 duplicate benchmarks were found and removed. Pierce County Survey data, 2014 Orthophotography, City of Puyallup Hydrant data, Water Line data, and Drainage data was used to locate unmatched benchmarks so they could be added to this feature class. Orthophotography was used to locate traffic light standards. Hydrant data was used to locate specific hydrants noted within a benchmark description. Water Lines were used to verify the presence or lack thereof of existing or removed hydrants. One benchmark was not added because the description indicated that it was located on a specific intersection corner on a particular hydrant. That hydrant had been removed in the early 2000's as verified by Brian Johnson in the Water Division of Public Works. Drainage data was used to locate one benchmark that was placed on a catchbasin cover at a specific location within a road. Seven new fields were added to the data to capture all the attributes noted for each benchmark by KPG. They are: Point_No, Elev_NGVD29, Elev_NAVD88, Northing, Easting, Visited, and Condition. Only the Benchmark_ID field was kept in the original feature class. The Benchmarks_ID field was used to join the table to the point feature class to capture the new attribution. The Excel spreadsheet was converted to a table using the ArcCatalogue tool to convert Excel spreadsheet to table. The table was then joined to the edited data containing all the benchmarks. </stepDesc>
