<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>This feature class shows geographical areas designated as police blocks.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
This feature class was created from the original pd_blocks.shp. The original was edited to accurately show a simplified workable solution of graphic representations of Puyallup Police Department Blocks that are to be used in the county-wide 2015 South Sound 911 (SS911) system. Its purpose is purely for mapping and dispatching. Early 2018 SS911 changed the City's PD Blocks around The Fair to reflect that during events contract police officers respond to incidents within the fair proper. City of Puyallup PD respond to all calls outside of the fair proper aka the parking lots, sidewalks, roads, and surrounding properties. SS911 also shows the area north of the Puyallup River East of SR512 bridge as an area to be responded to by City of Puyallup PD alabeit this area is beyond the City's limits. As of mid October 2018, the City of Puyallup PD, the City's Planning Department, and other individuals are trying to determine who is responsible for this area. At the date of this metadata this matter has not been resolved. Any inquiry into this matter should be directed to City of Puyallup PD.

This information was created for the Countywide SS911 system. There are blocks that are not assigned to the City of Puyallup. That is number #8 which is the Court house used by several jurisdictions. It resides within City of Puyallup but not dispatched to as a City of Puyallup area. There are areas that are shown as UK in 'Beat' field. This is due to an ongoing discussion between City of Puyallup Police Department, Planning Department, and Legal Departments with SS911 regarding who has jurisdiction over the Puyallup River outside of the City's limits.

Pre SS911: Pd_blocks.shp was created at the request of the police department. It consisted of generlized polygons with street boundaries. Originally this data was derived from census blocks. It is unclear at what time using census blocks as a base was abandoned but blocks are now assigned arbitrarily based upon field observations and/or mutual aid agreements.
For SS911: Pd_blocks.shp were edited for simplicity within the new CAD software. SS911 staff assigned the 700 series of numbers for use by the City of Puyallup Police Department so that each jurisdiction within Pierce County had their own hundred number designator.
